silly fuss, 3’27” video from the four-day project •

The short smelly performance was transformed into an extended non-odiferous version during a residency at the Oregon College of Art & Craft (OCAC) for the 2011 Tampa NCECA conference. Wordplay on the name of the mythological figure Sisyphus, as well as a humorous take on his absurd task, provides the title. For four days during the conference, taking after Beckett’s Molloy, I shaped a form that was both a square & a circle, seeking ultimately to make a squircle. I chose clay because I could keep moving it around, adding & taking away at the same time. Without an imagined beginning or end, the shape was always going from one place, always approaching the next, & never arriving at either.
