Earth Moves: Shifts in Ceramic Art & Design

fontaine, marbled whiteware •

“Feeling equally at home in the southern Rocky Mountains, the Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex, & that part of the Mediterranean rim called Provence, I move myself around some of the Earth to move around some earth to make my ‘Earth Moves’. They shift away from comparisons or distinctions in art, craft, & design toward discourse on the role of ceramics in painting, sculpture, & architecture. While the triumvirate remains evident for some observers, the ceramics discipline preserves its distinction as it moves across others’ boundaries. Then within that movement, I seek shifts in ceramics’ expressive manifold, specifically through its outlets of pottery & architecture.” –Brian Molanphy, from the catalogue
