Cornered Cargo, terra cotta with slip & glaze & black stoneware •
Cornered Cargo is inspired by “Cargo” & “Raiment”, poems by W.S. Merwin. The first tells about paintings floating off their walls at night & the second tells about how deeply ingrained in language is our way of keeping things, including ourselves, covered. Cornered Cargo is the latest iteration in several series of tiles whose linear, planar, or volumetric form emerges or extends from the wall. It consists of sixty perforated cubic containers of rectangular prisms with various materials & surfaces.
Ashlyn Lee curated the exhibition.
