Seven Star Warehouse 七星倉 , an exhibition of 39 tea wares, was primarily made at Cloud Forest Ceramics in mid-temperature polychrome stoneware & high-temperature soda glazed porcelain. Taiwan’s landscape of steep mountains surrounded directly by ocean or intermediate zones of marsh or jungle is reflected in the fluid give and take, the release and retention, and the concentration and dissolution of Taiwan’s most celebrated products: semiconductors and tea. The information concentrated in their containers flows through very different forms, but both are ceramic: silicon wafers and teapots. The most palpable change from the 2023 純Object exhibition to 2024 Cloud Forest exhibition, both in Taipei, is the size of the artworks—increased from easily held in hand up to a whole embrace. The color palette broadened and intensified thanks to the 2023 Cloud Forest residency. Notable is the redoubled expanse of forms, all the while doubling down on attention to surface. Credit is due to the rich environments in Taiwan—especially in the splendid Yangmingshan studio in the mountains above downtown Taipei.
