Circles & squares define the sort of perfection that some believed, or still believe, would save the world. Their edges fused, blurred, or intersected, these two perfect shapes can amuse, ridicule, or delight. The shapes are formed in a mica-rich clay dug in northern New Mexico, then burnished before firing. This burnished mica produces the reflective surface. At the end of the firing, the ceramics are blackened by smothering, in the manner of some Pueblo potters. The rounded shapes are complimented by the hard-edged brushed aluminum shelves made for the exhibition.
